I'm generally opposed to the sexual offender registries, but mostly for reasons of pragmatism: the information they contain is usually too vague and covers too many people to be useful. There are 70 alone in my zip code, and I haven't the foggiest idea from the descriptions what most of them did. Also, why should I consider someone convicted of a "Class II sexual misdemeanor" (whatever that is, the registries don't say) more of a concern than someone convicted of attempted arson or attempted murder or aggravated assault?
This monster was more than a child rapist, he's a spree killer. Would his crime be less horrific if he'd "only" killed and not actually raped anyone?

Brian, as a father I share your feelings about these sick predators. However, I think we would have a better chance of passing initiatives in states if we demand life without parole for child rape. I do not believe we could get anything passed that required the death penalty.

Why in the hell should we pay the annual upkeep for someone who can't be rehabilitated who will re-offend if let loose? No, I think they deserve to die. Little Jessica Lunsford was buried alive with her little stuffed dolphin...these sickos don't give their victims any choices, they themselves don't deserve any. We've got to quit having such "sympathy" for the perpetrators of crimes.

Why was he allowed to post bail and be released? Apparently the judge wasnt aware of how dangerous he was! People have to stop turning their heads when it comes to these twisted and evil crimes on children. People have to work together and make a difference. What is the chance they will be rehabilitated? from what I hear, its next to nothing!! I say 1 or 2 are preferable, but not realistic,we could pass #3 or get democrats defeated opposing it. The best thing we could do for the children of this country is actually pass a law that would leave the kids better off, not fall on a sword that the dems could mount a successful defense against.
There is a movement in WA to get a one strike youÂ’re out ballot initiative moving forward. I believe we could by-pass the dem Legislature and Governor and get a super majority of voters to pass it. The dems would look like fools trying to oppose it.

Of course life in prison, at tax payers expense, is the only way to go...just make sure it is in the general population. My understanding is their is an heirarchy even in the prisions...I am sure the pervs would make a nice 'bitch' for some hungry Bubba. Sorry I have three kids, and from what I gathered from a Montana paper, I haven't seen it in the national news, Dylan suffered...and I mean that and of course Shasta is going to be traumatized by what happened and what she witnessed for the rest of her life. There is no "cure" or rehabilitation for pedophiles. That's not to say a person cannot overcome or control their urges if they want to badly enough... but just like drinking and other compulsive illnesses, what happens when they "fall off the wagon"? Control or not, the urges never go away.
Castration is not an answer either, because the kind of crimes that Duncan has committed (besides the possible murders) stem from something much deeper than a sexual perversion. If he had no wanker, he'd have used an object or administered torture in some other manner. His crime is about defiling something innocent. It is rape taken to it's most horrible level. Castration wouldn't stop someone like him.
There is no doubt in my mind that he needs to die. And I didn't have to hear any demons to know that. God told me. He had it written in my Bible.
I saw a show on TV where they claimed Nevada has mandatory life-without-parole for sexual contact with any child under the age of 14. It is supposedly not dependent on it being a repeat offense. Does anyone know if this is true?
I am all for the death penalty, but if mandatory life in prision without parole is the best we can do, it is at least better than what we have now. Each of us needs to push for these kinds of laws in our own state. Write letters, send faxes, visit your local politicians... do whatever it takes. Many Legislators even have e-mail.

I'm tired of hearing conservatives blame liberals for people (and I use that word very loosely) such as this scum. As if life is better and safer under conservatives. I don't feel safer. My only safety is to do everying thing I can to protect my children. Although I disagree with conservatives, as they approach things in a self-righteous, self-serving, controlling, and heavy handed way, I do agree that there should be no mercy for anyone who harms children in any way.
Btw, there are many Democrats that don't make the news that believe in the death penalty for capital crimes, which I believe kidnapping and rape of anyone (especially children) should be classified.

First off, I wish to reiterate that I think we should pass

two types. Those that force and those that trick. What I mean by
that is that anyone who "forces" some one, is one who violently
does so, with guns, knifes, whatever. These scum should get
a special treatment that I heard that Japan uses on prisoners. (Don't
know if it is true or not, but sounds cool.) For the rest of their
life, they will get 15 minutes to eat three meals a day (total of 45 minutes), 8 hours of sleep, 15 minute shower, 7 hours of a work detail, and 8 hours sitting in a yoga position (foot on opposite thigh, hands on knees.) and contemplate what they have done. IF they
start to slouch or sleep, a good piece of bamboo to the shoulders
could correct that. This would be for the remainder of their life.
Of course this is for only the sex offenders that force their prey, and did not kill. Those who kill, see above.
Now those who trick the victims, I believe these to be few by
comparison. What I mean is those who gets their victims to willingly
have sex with them, but should not, (ie a 20 year old conning a 13 year old to have sex.) These will get the same prison treatment as
above, but for a certain length of time. Honestly I believe all
criminal in jail should get the above treatment. I can think of nothing more that I would hate than to have to sit straight for
eight hours with nothing do but think. I am sure after one prison
term, I would not go back.

As a mother of 3 and a grandmother of one, this whole thing makes me sick! I feel horrible and sick to my stomach for what Shasta and her brother Dylan had to endure. And to make it even worse her mother and other brother are also dead at that hands of this monster. Chemical castration? FUCK THAT! Kill that monster!! He can't be rehabilitated! And why should honest hardworking taxpaying citizens have to pay for this monster to recieve 3 meals a day, a bed and a roof over his head??? I say kill these monsters and be done with it. I work in a prison, which houses these sicks pieces of sh1t, and can tell you that most of them are not affected by being in prison. They are the biggest complainers, filing grievances for the most ridiculous things, such as "My food was cold yesterday and Officer Joe Blow made me eat it or go without lunch". The food was designed to be a cold meal - cold cuts. They are so sick too. We constantly find them attempting to collect pictures of little children, cut out of magazines and books. Also, it has become an issue that society has overlooked for so long that the other inmates do not outcast them any more. They simply become "Bubba's" wife, which they like or they do legal work, trying to help get the other scum bags out of prison or they file fradualant income tax returns for inmates, a scam which would piss the average tax payer off if they knew how rampant it is. Generally, they are accepted among this new breed of criminals. To most of the dirt-bags, in prison, it's society that is the problem, not the child molestor/murderer.
We have the new law, in Florida, that guarantees 25 to life for first time offenders. I am glad to see this implements; however, I would prefer hard labor also. I don't see how we, as society, can let these maggots live in a prison, work a simple job, go to the library and learn how to file administrative complaints at will, eat three decent meals a day, play hand-ball, watch television and engage in sex acts. They need to work so hard during the day that they fall asleep right after work, with no time or energy to play in their little world. Sorry to ramble, but this really makes me sick - I have to see it, first hand. everyday.

I live in Coeur D' ALene, Where Duncan's last victims lives and lived. Brenda used to come over to our house when I was a child. My daughter went to the same school as Shasta and Dylan. I never thought something like this would happen in our city. My mom has been working very hard to get those children found. When Shasta was found without Dylan at a local Denny's (where a friend of mine was working at the time) with Duncan, we had no idea what kind of person he was! How could a human being do something so horrific? But then I dont consider him hunam at all!!! What a sick sick sick man, just reading his blogs gives me chills. That poor girl, to be the only survivor of something like that.

Having written a program to rehabilitate sex offenders and having worked with them...you need to know there is no cure for these creatures. They will continue to re-offend, feeling no remorse for the children they have violated. Offenders will demand every right that a normal person has legally and physically. The only cure is death, for just as one post states, "even when casterated they still have teeth , fingers , and foreign objects," they will use to violate the children they prey upon...the compulsion is in their head...what does that tell you? The only cure is to dispose of the body part that allows them to function. I am a mother and a professional, and I would dispose of an individual of this kind in a heartbeat. The damage done to the children left behind is everlasting, the scares go right to the soul of the victims. It takes years of therapy and even then there is residual effects to the small humans these fiends violate. I believe the only solution to this kind of individual(notice I will not use his name as I choose not to diginify him or allow him the humaness of a name) is death by decapitation... after he has suffered at the hands of the family..."an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth"...I say this after a long season of thought.

I have read the Duncan blogs and am convinced he was just creating an audience and was delighted at the bs he was dishing out. He took those kids for his own sadistic pleasure, no demons told him. I get the impression he went for broke to fulfill the most deviant, sexualy sick and perverted act he could think of. Sick or not he knew he was doing wrong and smart enough to get help. A male co-worker and I were having a discussion... he said... "Everyone deserves a second chance, but after that, they should be locked up for life..." I looked at him and said... "Okay, your 6 year old daughter gets to be his second chance... still feel the same way?" funny how he changed his tune.
Also, I was listening to someone (sorry, can't give ya the person or station - just one of the many "experts" that have been on the tv) who said that they defend the decision to offer bail because Duncan wasn't a "violent" offender, pedophiles generally are non-violent and have a sexual dysfunction. HUH??? Since when is holding a gun to a 14 year olds head while you force him to perform oral sex on you and then top it off with an anal raping not violent??? Maybe we should do to Duncan what the taliban (or whoever they were) that captured Eugene Armstrong and videotaped his beheading did. That is the kind of treatment these SO's need. As a brother to three siblings, who were all sexually abused either by neighbors or family members, I believe there is NO rehabilitation for scum such as these. The only people as bad as them are the friends and family members who stand by allowing these crimes to occur, often repeatedly.

Tim...True confession time...I'm 55 yrs. old and am what has been reffered as a survivor of (cant say regular word) being molested by family member. What happened is I was molested by my grandfather for about 5 or 6 years. It was not near as bad as what happened to the little girl above, but probly was worese than what happened to some of the victims of the catholic priest's. They got a lot of money for their victimiztion. I did'nt. Not that I am bitter about that, but hey, I could have used the money. I will tell you this. My life would have been drastically different if that had not happened. I garantee you it would have been way easier than it has been.And I garantee this...That little girl's life has been changed forever. If you did not know he was a child molester, you would have been proud of him. The ACLU is a long-time defender of freedom of speach -- including your speech. The ACLU has joined forces with a number of very conservative organizations, including the Eagle Form. You see, the point for the ACLU is the content of the speech that is valued, but the right to speak. You evidently find value in the website of Duncan or you would not quote it verbatim. Ironic isn't it? You, if actuality, have used -- to your benefit -- the same speech you critize the ACLU for protecting. If you don't think it should be protected, don't use it.
Also, your statements about the ACLU and the sex offenders registry lacks a considerable basic understanding. As someone who would want to protect their families from sexual offenders, wouldn't you want to know the difference between someone 19 who was intimite with a 16-year-old to whom the "offender" has been lawfully married for 15 years and those who have been convicted of child molestation or rape. Of course you would. That is the "threat" the ACLU is taking about. If you have 30 register sexual offenders, 18 of them pose no threat to society, would you want to know the difference? It is much easier to protect your children from the two that matter than the 30 that may or may not matter, especially when you are not provided information on which to make an educated deccision. Or, perhaps as your website indicates, you just forego the "education," "information," and "speech" that may help you arive at an informed decision and seek to hate all 30. A few comments. First off, I am a rape survivor. I was raped as a little child by a family member and then at age 9 by a stranger when my younger brother and I were abducted. Fortunately the man did not harm my brother physically and returned us to a place not too far from our home about 10 hours later. The judicial system had dealt with this man prior to him kidnapping my brother and me but released him after he was in a mental hospital for 3 months. When they arrested him for my rape and mayhem , he was again put into a mental hospital. This time for 6 months, after which he was released and he promptly kidnapped, raped, and killed a little girl. Over the years I have learned that pedofiles cannot be changed or 'cured'; chemical castration only works on any sex offender as long as he or she TAKES the medication ROUTINELY and ON SCHEDULE. The desire, no the NEED to rape a child never goes away no matter how much medication, surgery, or therapy is given. How much money should taxpayers be forced to spend to house these people who can never be released into society once again? Why should they live in better conditions than many of the people on the outside with 3 meals a day, a bed,medical care, and a roof over their heads all paid for by our tax dollars? Even if what they get isn't perfect it is better than what many on the outside have. We forget too soon what was done to the victims by these monsters - look at what Shasta will have to live with the rest of her life; her mother, both brothers and her mom's boyfriend killed by this SOB and she actually saw her brother Slade come out of the house with his hands bound,head bashed in & covered with blood, moaning and not knowing where he was or able to respond to her! She was repeatedly raped & molested for days ... a little girl by an adult man. I know what it is to experience that loss of innocense and trust in life. I know the pain and the confusion and it makes me sick inside knowing what she has ahead of her. She will have to relive the whole stinking ordeal in the court room again and face that jackass because the law demands that he be given the chance to face his accuser! BS! That's where the law need to change; he was caught with her in his custody, they have video tapes of him with her in stores, physical evidence of sexual abuse, his blog, his confession, that's enough. Leave her alone. Let him into the General Pop. at Walla Walla State Pen. and see what happens...

By the way, the family member who molested me also molested many members of my family but nothing was ever done about it because "the family will deal with it'. Yea, right. In a pig's eye. He kept it up for as long as he could get away with it, apparently. He apologized to me the week before he died when I was 52 years old and he was 72! He left a long string of victims in the family and I let him I knew it and also let him know his apology was too little, too late.... I had already talked to others in the family and if he had touched one kid that I found out about that was within our states prosecuting time limit I was going to get his butt slammed into jail! None of my cousins had allowed their kids or grandkids to be around him! I wonder why...!?!?!!! But that's the way things were often done back in those days. Never heard of Gayce before today. I had to do a little online research to know who you were talking about. I'm only 35, so in the 70's when Gayce was on his raping/killing spree, I was either playing with Barbie dolls, or being the typical sister; busy trying to find a way to get my brother in trouble for something I did. Gwen...If you treat me seriously as a liberal I will do the same to you..Not with the disrespect that people like Rush and many of the other conservatives have in this site and as you started to do earlier. That is much disrespect and is gonna cause big trouble if it keeps up ("right here in river city"((Music Man)). What about Ted Bundy and the Green River Killer..Both big conservatives. Ted was even head of a local republican presdential campaign for Nixon I think. Another one. The guy in Atlanta that killed all those young boys. And how about all the catholic priests...Catholocism is a haven for conservatism, and we all know about their fondness for young boy's. Now you will have a hard time finding these kind of people who are liberals. The ones who aren't conservatives are to disorganized to be identified with any kind of a movement. Right on Jeanie...BTK does fit intnis category.. Thanks...What about all those children (and adults) in Iraq tha have suffered just as bad as the little girl here. And what about their perpatrator. And it's not just Sadam Hussein. Let's get political. And you know this part is true.."no one talks about them". It;s like it'e OK for them to die, get maimed and or dis-membered, and probly raped by soldiersm from both sides. (An example of people on the other side getting raped and killed by American soldiers in Vietnamn is the "night Stalker" Richard Ramerez in LA. He learned his craft, killing and raping sodomozing and other unspeakable stuff from a cousin who did those kinbd of things on a regular basis in vietnam).
